No, you have to unplug the machine to turn it off.

Can this work in the car ?

The short answer is probably. BUT! You'll need an inverter which will convert your car's DC power to AC, which is what you have in your home. MOST importantly, check the wattage. Your car may not produce enough wattage for it to operate at the temp. needed. Small Inverters run from around 5.00, cheap may overheat, short out etc.

Does this sandwich maker come with a replaceable plate to grill or make waffles?

How do you set the temperature to a specific number? For example: 300 degrees.

I am sorry to tell you that the Panini Press simply does not get hot enough. The bread comes out soggy and the cheese is barely melted, even at the highest temperature. I would certainly buy a different product (or you can have mine, which is sitting on a shelf in the garage, never to be used again)
