Wait, these are actually good? What?
So I am hiking with some friends and one of my buddies pulls a bag of these eggs out to re-hydrate/cook.If you are a veteran of the freeze-dried breakfasts in the blue foil bag, you know the drill. Freeze dried eggs are really nothing to write home about, and that's being generous. And so all of us are like "man, why did you ever buy those nasty fake eggs, what were you thinking?" And as the stuff came out of the bag, wow did it look terrible. Imagine talcum powder the color of Cheetos. It just looked so wrong, nothing like eggs, more like some kind of demonic chemistry experiment. I am thinking to myself "I am going to have to lend him a cliff bar after he has to pour that nuclear waste into a cat hole."But then he carefully measured out how much Cheeto talcum powder he needed, and added just the right amount of water, and kind of whisked the water and eggs together and heated it.He showed us the result - it transformed into real, normal scrambled eggs. More importantly, it tasted just like real eggs you'd make at home. We were all just stunned, including him.Turns out that these aren't the freeze-dried eggs you thought they were, they are made in a different way. And there is a huge difference in quality with these. As terrible as they look in their dry form, they just become normal eggs again when they are re-hydrated.The tradeoff is that this stuff will eventually go bad in a few years, it doesn't last until the end of time like those freeze-dried meals. But it still keeps for several years, shelf stable, more like canned goods. What did I do? I went home and bought three packages of these. Shelf-stable bacon + these = bacon and eggs for breakfast on the trail. Sweet. I even threw a package in the pantry in case I ever run out of eggs at home. They are that good. Keep those blue package eggs for the end of the world, but until the end of the world gets here, eat these instead.

Good taste. Good shelf life.
These are the best tasting dry eggs. Handy for your baking as well. Because of the Bird Flu these are smart to have some around just in case. Good shelf life.

1 leaky pouch.
Bought a 3 pack. All 3 were in a zip bag and were covered in powdered egg.top of one pouch had an opening through which the egg poured out in transit.Product itself is good tasting and easily prepped. A favorite, despite the loss.

Great for camping
I have carried eggs in a protective camping container for 50 years and I back country camp often. As I get older I am always seeking ways to lower weight and make things simpler. I tried the Ova eggs this year and am 100% satisfied. They are easy to use and I cannot tell the difference between these and scrambled eggs made using whole eggs. I had 2 people out for 7 days and normally I could only have carried 10 eggs and we would have had 2 eggs/day for 5 days. Using this product I took the equivalent of 24 eggs and we enjoyed 3-4 eggs/day everyday and they took less volume and weight to pack. I will never go back to whole eggs for camping. These are GREAT!

Eggcellent!!!
I stopped buying store bought eggs because I hated having to fish the little membranes out of my eggs. I also didn't like the occasional blood in the yolk, which would make me eat oatmeal for the next month out of guilt. My brother came to town and I made breakfast. I later showed him what I use for eggs. He said he couldn't tell the difference. I like to have consistency in my eggs, and this helps. I also go camping, and breakfast has become my favorite part.

OvaEasy are Fresh-Tasting and Delicious: Eggs-tra Bang for your Buck!
I did a thorough review and price comparison of powdered egg options on Amazon, before buying OvaEasy. I didn't want to buy too much, just in case they tasted horrid, so I kept my price comparison to product under $20. I reviewed Honeyville, Hoosier, Barry Farm and OvaEasy. At 20 cents per egg, Honeyville Powdered Eggs was cheapest. BUT since it comes in a 2.25 lb can (96 eggs, $19.09), I was sure there would be wastage. The thing is, once the can is opened, the eggs will start sucking up ambient moisture. They need to be eaten within two weeks or they'll go bad. Hmm... 96 eggs in two weeks? No thanks. Also, these eggs received mixed reviews.Hoosier Farm Whole Powdered Eggs were also cheap at 24 cents per egg. However, these came in a 1 lb bag (42 eggs, $9.99). I could probably finish the package within two weeks of opening, but did I really want to eat all that powdered egg? Besides, nobody has seen fit to review the product yet.OvaEasy powdered whole eggs, at 51 cents per egg (for the 3 pack of 4.5 oz sachets, $18.49) was more than double the cost of the Honeyville and Hoosier bulk eggs. However, the advantage was that each pack containing 12 eggs-worth, could be used pack-by-pack. I used one pack for three meals over a three day hiking trip and found this portion size to be perfect for my needs. It's great that they don't need refrigerated!Barry Farm Whole Egg Powder was the most pricey at 60 cents per egg (8 oz bag = 21 eggs, $12.76). I read the reviews. Most of them were mediocre except for one that said they were cheaper than Honeyville and tasted just as good. I'm not sure where that reviewer got his figures from, but I certainly wasn't going to buy these eggs!Gracie's PickI got OvaEasy. They taste so fresh, and are great scrambled, especially with organic ghee. They were also wonderful in egg and chicken burritos (which I blog about in Gracie Cooks!). Other brands don't seem to scramble as well according to the reviewers. And the sachet portion size is a plus. Next time, I will save by buying in bulk!
